The Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick recently awarded the tender for the much anticipated phase 2.  Phase 2 will consist of the Larsen Curling Centre, home to the Berwick Curling Club, the Willowdale Farm Fitness centre fully equipped aerobic and strength training facility and the Eden Valley Wellness Centre. Other renovations will include additional dressing rooms and minor upgraded to the arena and existing spaces.

The successful tender went to Lindsay Construction of Dartmouth the amount of $4,240,000 keeping the overall project costs at approximately $5 million. Site preparation will begin soon followed by continued construction. The entire project will be completed by the spring of 2018.

John Nichols, chair of the Kings Mutual Century Centre Building committee says “we are pleased to award this project to such an experienced company as Lindsay, we look forward to working with them over the next several months”.

The Curling Club, Fitness Centre and Wellness Centre will be a great addition to the Apple Dome Arena, walking track, Wilson’s Community Centre and the Berwick Lions Club that were part of Phase 1 opened in 2010.

The Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia have each provided $1.6 million to the project. The community has raised most of the remaining $1.8 million and will continue to fundraise to meet additional costs.
