TOWN COUNCIL APPROVES 2015/2016 BUDGET

Town of Berwick residents will see accumulated tax rates remain stable after the passage of a $4.37 million municipal budget on June 9, 2015. The approved budget maintains existing service levels within town departments, while providing additional funding for road maintenance and various capital projects.

Due to changes in assessments, the percentage increase in taxation will vary from property to property. The legislated CAP increase on residential property assessments for the 2015 taxation year is 2.1%.

Since the 2011/2012 tax year, the blended residential tax rate has been reduced by over 10 cents, from 1.62 cents per $100 of assessed value to 1.519 cents in 2015/2016.

SEWER RATE

Sewer charges have increased 6.0% from last year due to increased operating costs within the system. Single family dwellings will be charged a flat rate of $123.39 per year ($116.40 in 2014/2015), with different charges for other property classes. Despite this increase, Berwick continues to have one of the lowest rates for sewer services in Nova Scotia.
