Since 1915, the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department has dedicated itself to protecting our community, covering approximately 100 square miles. Our passionate volunteers respond to over 100 alarms each year, providing fire prevention and safety to diverse industries and neighborhoods. Each year, firefighters in Nova Scotia fundraise hundreds of thousands of dollars for various causes. For some, they may be upgrading their level of service with a new piece of equipment or apparatus. For others, it may be a means to support other charities or community organizations in need, or to preserve the history of their local accomplishments. As a common goal, all organizations do this to make their communities a better and safer place to live!

Fire Hall Rentals
Guidelines for Recreation Hall
A rental agreement must be signed by the renter.
- BDVFD provides cleaning supplies and garbage bags. The floors are to be swept. Tables are to be wiped clean. Tables and chairs are to be returned to the storage closet.
- Payment for damage will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
- Cleaning charge if required will vary from $50.00 – 150.00 at the discretion of the department.
- The renter is responsible for the appropriate behavior of their guests.
- The Bartender(s) and assistants provided by the department are volunteers. They have been instructed to request assistance from the RCMP in the event of any potential issues.
- Parking for renters and guests is the North half of the rear parking lot for the recreation hall, and the front and North parking spots for the classroom.
- The apparatus floor and ramp in front of the bay doors are not to be used and must be kept clear at all times. Guests are not permitted on the operational side of the building without an escort from the department.
- Please do not use tape, push pins, nails, etc. on the walls, chairs, or tables.
- No lit candles or tea lights are permitted on premises.
The Berwick Volunteer Fire Department will now require Commercial General Liability Insurance for anyone renting the facilities not sponsored by the Fire Department. The insurance must be satisfactory to the Fire Department and underwritten by an insurer licensed to conduct business in the Province of Nova Scotia.
Proof of insurance must be provided before key fobs will be issued to the renter. The policy shall provide 30 days prior notice of cancellation. Proof of Insurance is required at least 10 days before the event.

Highlights from 2025
- New Fire Truck Added
A multi-purpose unit was added to the fleet, increasing flexibility in everything from structure fires to brush calls. - Fast, Professional Response
Crews were on scene for a range of incidents: from a smoking ambulance in January to house fires in Windermere and Aylesford this summer. - Wildfire Support
Members spent long hours assisting with wildfire containment efforts in West Dalhousie and Long Lake, working alongside regional partners. - Community Safety & Education
The department continues to conduct hydrant checks, host training nights, and deliver fire safety programs in schools.
