Press Release - Town of Berwick Holiday Events

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OCTOBER 28, 2020
SUBJECT: Public update on the Town of Berwick’s “Santa Claus weekend”

BERWICK, NS – The Town of Berwick’s Holiday celebrations (known as “Santa Claus weekend” to many) will look a little bit different for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Town of Berwick has been tirelessly working on plans to usher in the holiday season with celebrations that are keeping with public health guidelines set out by the Province of Nova Scotia.

In 2020, because of group size gathering limits and physical distancing requirements, the traditional Parade of Lights and Tree Lighting Ceremony will not be taking place in the Town of Berwick.

“This has been a difficult decision, but a necessary one. We know that our residents will be disappointed to break from tradition this year, but we have plans in place to allow the magic of the holiday season to continue in Berwick.” explained Town of Berwick Recreation Coordinator, Taylor Boylan. “It is important that as a municipality, we lead by example. While COVID-19 case numbers are low in our region, we must remain vigilant and follow the guidelines laid out for us.”

While the traditional parade and tree lighting will be missing from the offerings this year, Boylan noted that the Town has been working to develop a plan that will still foster a magical holiday atmosphere throughout Berwick in November and December.

“On November 27, the Town of Berwick Council and Staff will be lighting the Town Hall Christmas lights to kick off the holiday season, at 6:30 PM. This event will be livestreamed on social media and residents are encouraged to stay close to home and, following an official countdown, turn their own Christmas lights on with us. We encourage local businesses to participate with us, and allow residents the opportunity to explore the downtown, light and bright, that evening.

Additionally, while a Parade of Lights is not possible, the Town of Berwick is working on plans to bring Santa through Town ahead of Christmas. There will also be a Home and Business Decorating contest, scavenger hunt and more events with our Berwick Business Community, throughout the holiday season.

The public will be able to find more information on this year’s festivities in the coming weeks online at www.berwick.ca. You can also keep up with what’s happening by following the Town of Berwick on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Halloween during COVID-19

The Province of Nova Scotia has released guidelines for residents of Nova Scotia to safely participate in Halloween this year. The guidelines can be found here: https://novascotia.ca/protect-yourself-and-others-from-coronavirus/halloween/

We at the Town of Berwick encourage residents to review the guidelines and participate in Halloween activities, while following the provincial guidelines.

Happy Halloween, Boowick!

Closure of Washrooms & Splash Pad

The seasons have changed, and the temperature is falling - the splash pad and washrooms at Rainforth Park are officially closed for the season. You will notice over the next few weeks that the playboxes and other moveable pieces in our parks and playgrounds will soon also be removed.

Thank you for a wonderful spring, summer and early fall - we hope you continue to enjoy our facilities over the late fall and winter.
